Every business owner has to publish a newsletter every month. The only way in which a business owner can convey messages through the newsletter is by making sure that it attracts the attention and focus of the reader. The writer of the newsletter needs to be able to keep the reader’s attention for a long period of time. This is best done by ensuring that the content of the newsletter and also its presentation needs to be pleasing to the person reading it. There are 5 advices of how to enhance newsletter’s effectiveness. It is necessary that every business owner goes through these 5 advices of how to enhance a newsletter’s effectiveness. Following these five suggestions will help business owners to convey whatever they have to through the newsletter, without boring the reader before he or she even reaches the end.
5 advices of how to enhance newsletter’s effectiveness:
1) Content of the letter: It would be great if you write in a more personal manner. If you need some help with this you can hire a professional editor to help you write your newsletter. When you address the reader on a personal level, the reader will immediately read it more attentively (reading a newsletter which is written in the third person tone is not a very bright idea). Make sure that the content is full of life and not something which is dull and boring. You can throw in some metaphors wherever possible; this will help to make the newsletter lively.
2) Layout of the newsletter: Make sure that the layout of your newsletter is purely professional. Going in for something which is clumsily presented is a big no-no. The presentation of the newsletter is one of the main aspects which will attract the reader’s attention before they start reading the content.
3) Send out newsletters more frequently: The most common thing with every business is that the newsletters are sent out once in a month. Sending out a newsletter more often will show reader’s that you have some sort of interest in them. Sending out too many won’t be great thing to do as thins might just bore the readers. Make sure that every newsletter which is sent has unique content and has something new to offer to the readers.
4) Links in your Newsletter: When you send out the newsletter via mail, you have got to make sure that you use more than two or three links leading to your resources.
5) Keep a tag on the response received: You can do this be asking for feedback and keeping an eye on the number of members who subscribe to your newsletters.
Oracle And Google Fight Over Java Programming In Android- Trial Begins
The copyright row between Oracle and Google has started. Oracle in this lawsuit is claiming about $1bn in compensation from Google. This trail is now known to be the one of the biggest tech lawsuits hitherto. The case is built over Oracle’s claim that Google’s Android has infringed upon intellectual property rights over the language. The problem arises because Oracle doesn’t want Google’s free operating system Android to give away their programming language “Java” for free as well. The case demands publicly revealing both companies financial details. Both companies were warned about this being a public trial. Larry Ellison from Oracle and Larry Page from Google will be among the first witnesses in this case.
Oracle is the company which inherited the intellectual rights for the programming language Java by taking over the language’s original developer Sun Microsystems. Google’s Android will be using 37 API (application programming interface) that allow the developers to write Java compatible code. This is where the whole problem originates from. Oracle also said that the APIs that took years to design and code were shown on Google’s website for Android. Apparently, 103400 lines of API specifications appeared on the website. Also, infringement on two patents of Oracle’s – “Data Processing Enhancement” and a “method to generate executable code” by Google is to be talked about in this case.
In this case, if Oracle wins then every application, be it on Android or Windows or Mac, will have to be re-released under new license terms. This can create a huge change in the “application world” as most of the applications will have to be withdrawn until they can be legally rereleased. In a way, Android will have to be edited by Google if Oracle wins this case. Google is defending itself by saying that it has only used Open Source Technology to develop the Android OS. If this is indeed true then Google hasn’t infringed any copyrights and it will win this case.
The whole case will be worked out in three phases-
- copyright liability part
- Claims on the infringement on the patents
The entire trial is said to last for a whopping 8 weeks. Both companies were given some time to sort out the case between themselves so potential jurors were saved from making a trip to the courthouse and also, to save sensitive financial data of both Google and Oracle to get revealed publicly. However, the deadline passed and no decision was made. Hence, the trial in San Francisco begins.
This case in all its seriousness will draw the base of all programming languages- whether every part of every programming language comes under the copyright law. This trial may worry Android OS mobile phone users. This being quite a high profile case is attracting much attention and debates.
Facebook “Likes” And Supports CISPA
Recently, one of the most popular social networking sites Facebook released a statement defending its support for CISPA (Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act) of 2011. Many were stunned to know that Facebook, who swears by keeping people’s privacy rights intact, supports this rule. This bill would potentially let ISPs block websites, cut off internet access to users accused of piracy and also, this way provide the military new ways to spy on your usage over the internet. Facebook declared that they will be signing the support form for this HR 3523 Act before US congress in this month, because “they want to back new cyber security”.
This bill was introduced on 30th April in 2011, and now is due before congress in this month’s 23rd April. Not only has Facebook supported this bill, but also AT&T, Intel, Verizon and Microsoft have signed their support. These are just the few firms among 800 of them. Facebook has promised that nothing about their privacy settings will change and that this bill wouldn’t impose any new obligations for users to share their data with anyone. They claim that CISPA is just supposed to make it easier for firms to receive critical threat data from the US government itself.
There are many critics for CISPA including organizations like Electronic Frontier Foundation, Sunlight Foundation, Avaaz.org that have shown their concerns about the extent to which the government will monitor the user’s information. John Wonderlich of Sunlight foundation has expressed his opinion by saying that CISPA dismisses FOIA (Freedom of Information act) completely and isn’t transparent in what is shared between the firms and the government at all. The concerns are being voiced so harshly based on the huge flaw of CISPA i.e. there has been usage of broad language to describe what constitutes of a cyber security threat and what doesn’t. This bill is more or less a part of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) with the ISP able to monitor communications of subscribers for potential infringement whenever they want to.
In short, with CISPA, critics are afraid that anything from shopping history to search engine history will be eligible for the government to categorize as potential infringement of intellectual data thus making anyone a suspect. Critics are even quoting the scenario as “handing over the internet to the military.” The argument stems from the fact that with this bill, the government has the right to classify anything under theft or misappropriation of private or government information.
While Facebook played a pivotal role in stopping SOPA, it has shown its support to this bill. Many are surprised at this motion. Of course, SOPA and PIPA (protect intellectual property act) are two other bills which the government is still considering.
Pay For More Exposure On Tumblr Now, Says David Karp
David Karp, founder of Tumblr, has recently declared that brands can now pay for airing for advertisements on the website. While those brands were already there on Tumblr, by paying for more advertisement space, these brands can attempt to be more out there. This is Tumblr’s modus operandi for growing faster and getting a considerable amount of extra revenue. From 2nd May, you will see more advertisements on Tumblr’s dashboards. The Radar space which shows popular posts by various users will now be airing these advertisements. Tumblr, which has always been against advertising in the past, wants the brands to come up with creative ads to not drive savvy users away.
It was in 2010 for Los Angeles Times that the founder has said that he is against advertisements. The micro blogging site now will air advertisements on it pre existing Radar’s slot. The founder regrets calling social networking site Facebook and search engine Google “devoid of creativity” because they use paid advertisements. The founder had also remarked in one interview that Tumblr would not sell itself like Google did, and that if they did, it would probably be as a “last resort”.
Tumblr didn’t reveal the cost of the Radar advertisements though. The founder when giving the presentation declared this decision by only showing his email address on the projector screen inviting anyone who can come up with creative advertisements to contact him. He didn’t even announce the launch partners for the ad unit. It is being said that many fashion and media brands have immediately become adopters of the platform.
Tumblr is a giant micro blogging website that has already passed the 50 million blog mark. The site made money by taking their cut from the sales blog themes custom made by users and designers sold on the platform. The Radar space which will be airing the paid advertisements used to get 120 million impressions per day from various users. Users could log onto their dashboard via many devices.
Tumblr’s founder is simply trying to get some extra income like social networking sites such as Facebook with paid advertisements and Twitter with “promoted story” system. The sponsored posts will be seen on their dashboard come 2nd May. The founder himself claimed that this is a “last resort” to bring in the extra income and become profitable. Brands like IBM, EMI Music etc who were already using Tumblr for promoting themselves will now get the chance to buy their way into more exposure on this site.
Tumblr seems to have secured advertising contracts with Cartoon Network and 14 other advertisers. Tumblr, a site which was launched in 2007, took 5 years to resort to paid advertisements for income.
Twenty Thousand Plus ‘Hacked Notifications’ sent to Webmasters by Google
On 16th April 2012, Matt Cutts who is the head of webspam team at Google announced on his Twitter account that Google has sent out 20,000 plus notifications to websites that they believed were ‘hacked’. Most webmasters were completely unaware of the weird redirects that were taking audience from their website to completely non-authorized website. The reason was simple – these redirects only appeared when someone used Google’s search results to find the webmaster’s site, and since the webmaster himself/herself will not use Google to locate their website, they were completely unaware of these activities. To make webmasters who were unaware of this hidden practices, Google sent them a message to make them aware of what was going on unknown to them.
Today, website hacking can be called as organized crime in the world of modern enterprises. It isn’t done by amateurs, but by professional programmers who are smart enough to be able to take control of thousands of computers without the knowledge of the owner. These people have an in depth knowledge of browser vulnerabilities, operating softwares and sometimes even psychology to make an automated attack. Strangely, it is almost impossible to track down who the mastermind behind the hacking was. Even if you probed deeper enough, you’ll only come to realize your website was hacked by another computer, which was already hacked by a third computer and so on. The web these hackers create is so foolproof that it is almost impossible to find out where the hacking originally even began.
So why do they do it? The first reason is money. These hackers are hired by professionals who basically want confidential information about your customers, especially if your website deals with buying and purchasing and will have financial information of your customers. They will take information you will willingly never give out – credit card details, Social Security numbers, telephone numbers and even addresses. They will copy your customer data base and sometimes sell it to your competitors, who will lure in your clients will better deals once they know how to reach them. Another reason can be the challenge of controlling thousands and more computers, and for a nerdy criminal that is the greatest high. They will hack the computers of your entire customer data base, creating tons of zombie computers they can control for fun. Some hackers will even try and plug in to your high speed internet for downloads, and use the processing power of your server. Sometimes, the hacking will be done to redirect traffic from your site to an unauthorized website, as pointed out by Matt Cutts. And other times, it will be for using your webspace to host illegal content or even worse, a new illegal website. To protect yourself against such crime, hire an expert who can change the security settings of your computer and website, so that you are no longer at risk.
Static or Dynamic – know your choice of website
If you have already worked on building your own website, then you would know what static and dynamic websites are and how they differ. But if you are planning to build a new site, then you should surely know more about these sites and how different they are different from each other. The kind of website chosen by a client greatly depends on his or her priorities and requirements. To be able to choose the type of website you want, you need to know the features of each type and its pros and cons. Then you can make your choice depending on your priorities.
Static websites are very basic. These sites are relatively cheaper when compared to dynamic sites. It takes less mount of money to produce and host these sites. Usually, these sites are used by small business enterprises and developers to make their presence on internet and to let the world know about their business and services. The client can deliver all the desired information and details without the added attractions that are usually found in dynamic sites. Generally, it takes professionals or users who know exactly what to do in terms of coding to update and maintain these sites.
The advantages of choosing this kind of sites are; they can be quickly and cheaply developed. And the disadvantages of them are; they need professionals to update them regularly, when not updated, the users may find the site boring and although the content is delivered, users will not find the site exciting to use.
Dynamic sites are the other kind of websites. When you choose a dynamic site, you can offer a number of exciting tools and features to your visitors. This will make the site more interesting. This kind of sites allows the clients to manage the site on their own. Through central point the site manager or client can easily update the site, input information, content, products etc. Therefore, unlike the static sites, dynamic sites do not need the services of professionals to update and maintain.
The positive aspects of dynamic sites are; they are easy to manage and update, they are more interesting and attractive and it is a system used by many people. The negative aspects of this kind of sites are; they are costly to host and produce and when opened, it might take time for the website to load.
It is the needs and priorities of the clients that determine the kind of site that they want to choose. While static sites are perfect for small business enterprises who do not wish to invest more, dynamic sites are fit for big business units and organizations.
Getting a better understanding of Keywords in context to Searchers
Though it is a good thing to want to relate to your targeted audience better, a website owner must be a better understanding of keyword classification. But to really understand web searchers, the creator of the website must have a better objectivity in relation to keywords. It isn’t just important to understand what keywords and keyword phrases audiences type in to search engine windows, but to also understand their context to be truly able to integrate the right keywords in to a website.
When we talk about the ‘context’ of the keyword in relation to search, many things will come in to play. A few things to consider would be whether the individual is running a search using a desktop computer or a laptop? Also, whether the search is conducted during office hours or at home might be of context. The biggest constraint, however, will be whether the search has a time constraint, like in the case of a person who has missed a flight and needs to change hotel reservations or reservations for a cab pickup. Also, in case a search is run in order to find a product online for purchasing or selling, what would probably be the ideal time before a person will close the deal? Another thing to consider here is whether the searcher is a newbie or a person experienced in handling a computer and search options. All these come in to play in a variety of ways, and though Web analytics Data can help an SEO professional to quite an extent to gather enough information related to keywords and context, sometimes it is simply not enough.
If one carefully thinks about it, the context in which a keyword can be interpreted will change in many ways, from one person to another. For example, if you think of the word ‘Gas’, while some people will immediately associate it with the gasoline they use as fuel for their car, others will think about Oxygen needed in medical care or even farting and flatulence. If a company deals in medical equipment, say Oxygen tanks, a more appropriate way to put that keyword would be ‘Gas in healthcare’ or “Gas to help breathe’ or even simply ‘Gas cylinder’. Most searchers do not put in the context of their search until they are unable to find relevant information of what they are looking for.
Since most searchers do not classify keywords into categories like an SEO professional would, sometimes keyword research tools can fail simply because of this reason. A better way to do a more thorough keyword research that is in context to a client’s website, SEO professionals should broaden their tools to include things like User Interviews, Diary studies, Field Studies, Usability Testing and Observing users or searchers in a search environment that is more ‘natural’ to them to be able to pinpoint the right keywords with the right context to offer their clients 100% results and satisfaction. This is the only way to guide searchers to the right content, and help search engine sin to understanding ‘context’ better.
Account activity – Google’s unique service
Account Activity, a new tool launched by Google allows the users to have knowledge about web usage across all the Google sites such as Google search, Gmail, Google+, YouTube etc. This is a detailed monthly report of the user’s web activity with Google and its related sites. This is a great way to keep a check on one’s web browsing history. The users can also know if their accounts are being misused by the hackers or unauthorized users. Since Google’s privacy policies are being criticized by many users across the world, this tool is introduced to make the users more knowledgeable about their web usage with all their Google accounts.
Account activity also gives details such as location and the device used to access to the Google accounts. For instance, if you notice that you have accessed to your Google accounts on a specific date from specific location where you have not been on that day, the user can clearly understand that their account was used by someone else. Also, the user could see that he or she has searched from a device that the user doesn’t own. When the user notices such changes in their account usage, they can change their password or take up better security measures.
With the help of this tool, the user can also know how many Gmail messages were sent and received by him or her during a month. This detailed report also shows the total web searches by the user and the top queries. The users can activate this service via an opt-in option. This service is also protected by a password. Deleting an item in the web history will not affect this report. The user can still get the detailed report on a month-to-month basis. However, these reports can be deleted by the users at any time.
“We wanted to make it easier for signed-in users to understand, manage and protect their information on Google,” a Google spokesperson told TechNewsWorld in a statement provided by Nadja Blagojevic, communications for Google.
Always Use A Professional Logo Maker For Your Company
A logo is not just any random symbol; it represents your company and this is why you have to take the best care to ensure that your logo is as professional as your company. A logo plays an important role in your business. If you have a shabby logo representing your business, your company is certainly not going to be considered as one which is professional. A logo is like the face of your company. It has a major role to play in creating an impact in the minds of consumers. Your company’s successes entirely depend on how well you can reach out to and attract the public eye; this is where a logo can help. Getting a professional logo maker to do the job would be a great idea!
There are many business professionals who try to come up with their own logo for their company. What they may not realise is that they are putting their business at a high risk. A logo is what a company gets recognized by. It should be evident to the public eye; a consumer should be able to relate the logo to your company. Many people think that the perfect logo is one which is colourful and attractive. This is not true. A perfect logo needs to be attractive, yes; but it sure doesn’t have to be colourful. The main point is that a logo should be simple and attractive at the same time and this is something that only a professional logo maker can deliver.
Remember that a logo speaks for the company. It should represent the company and what it offers, by all means possible, without making it look too complicated for a consumer to understand. Having a good logo for your company might just be more important than you think. It is best to not take a chance when it comes to designing a logo for your company. Make it a point to hire a professional logo maker to get your logo done. There are many professional logo makers available on the market today. When you hire a logo designer make sure that he is a professional. It would help if you check out some of his old designs and previous success. You might even come across professional logo designers who offer money back plans.
Once your logo is a success among consumers you can take it a step forward and play around with the logo; you can make a few changes here and there. This doesn’t necessarily means that you over do it and make it too complicated as this might cause you to loose recognition among customers. Hire a professional logo maker and get going with your business!
Why Do I Need To Hire A SEO Agency?
Many people believe that they don’t need to hire a SEO agency because they themselves can handle basic SEO techniques by reading a few books. Others are of the opinion that they can hire an in house SEO expert to handle their SEO needs and probably save money. However, there are limitations to both these scenarios.
If you handle your own SEO needs, you will find that you are constantly short of time to handle all responsibilities related to your business. As a business owner, you need to generate more business, keep a close eye on management and make sure you meet all delivery timelines. And handling SEO is more of a full time job, especially when you are still trying to build on your credibility.
Why hire a SEO agency?
An SEO agency will offer you the following:
- Promise of not just a good website, but also one that generates traffic. You can probably create a great website, but can you guarantee that visitors will find it in the sea of ever increasing websites every day? Probably not! It is SEO experts who understand what makes one website stand out and gain the trust of potential customers. And by handling your SEO needs these experts will ensure your website gains popularity
- Search Engines take time before they give you high ratings. An SEO agency can give you search presence in a shorter duration of time. Why? Because they don’t just know how to build an impressive website, but they also know how to get search engines to like it immediately!
- When you handle your own SEO needs, you are limited by your knowledge. You of course can’t spend day after day just becoming an SEO expert when your business demands so much of your time already. Instead, hiring an SEO agency ensures that SEO knowledge is not limited. These experts will sue all means to ensure your website is well received and gives good results. And if not, they will find the errors and change them, suing new SEO tactics.
- You save precious time, which can be given to the growth of overall business.
Why an SEO agency is better than an in-house expert?
You can hire an SEO expert, but that limits you in many ways. With an SEO agency, you are guaranteed multi staffs who handle different aspects of your website. Each person is an expert in their own field, offering top notch services. Whereas a single SEO expert might be aware of all latest SEO tricks, he or she might be slower as well as not as professional about the same work due to lack of time. With an SEO agency, you are tapping in to a collective intelligence pool, which works in the favor of your overall website design and buildup.
