Here’s how Onlywire works.

A great source of backlinks to any website, is social networking sites.  These sites include Facebook, stumbled upon, digg and countless others.  What these social bookmarking sites allow you to do is create a link to any page (or article) of your website.  This has two benefits, 1) it creates a backlink (which help your SEO), and 2) it may just attract the attention of other users on the social networking site.

A common method of promoting new pages of blog posts is to submit the URL of the page to a number of social networking sites.  As well as the benefits mentioned above, this also helps Google to locate and index your new page much faster. Search Engine Optimisation Process

For any business owner it is important to understand the search engine optimization process, so that firstly you can understand the work being done on your behalf, but also that you can undertake certain aspects of the work yourself.

The first part of the search engine optimization process is to identify the keywords which your website will target.  But how is this done?  There are two key factors in choosing the right keywords to target.  Firstly, how many searches does the keyword get each month? Secondly, how strong is the competition!

Take for example a website selling children’s clothing.  The obvious keyword choice may be “children’s clothes”, however this would be overlooking some very important factors.  The keyword “children’s clothes” may receive tens of thousands of searches per month, but the competition would be huge.  Whilst page one is achievable for any keyword, it is important to select a keyword which is achievable in fair amount of time; usually two or three months.  A better choice of keyword would be one which does not have such massive competition which still has decent search volume.

The golden rule: It’s better to be on page 1 for a keyword which receives 100 searches per month, than page 10 of a keyword which gets 1,000,000 searches per month.

Identifying the correct keywords to target it is critical in the search engine optimization process. The next phase is to implement those keywords onto the relevant page of the site.  There are too many aspects to this, to list in this short article. Aspects such as the page names, meta tags, image names, alt tags, keyword density and keyword placement all come into play.

The final stage of the search engine optimization process is to perform off-site work to encourage Google (and other search engines) to associate your website with the given keyword.  This includes adding links to directories, creating articles on article sites and gaining backlinks from quality reputable sites. This phase is often the most time consuming.

The entire search engine optimisation process is never ending, and is usually undertaken on a monthly basis by an expert.  As keyword targets are met, new ones can be identified and thus the site traffic grows organically.
